INTERNATIONAL FORUM FOR CHILD WELFARE

The International Forum for Child Welfare is an international non-government organisation chartered under the laws of Switzerland, and in consultative status Category 11 with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

The IFCW was founded in 1989 after four years of development as part of a Congress on the Rights of the Child, "to strengthen national non-governmental child welfare organisations worldwide, to share concerns and to collaborate on new initiatives on behalf of this planet's most valuable resource - children."

IFCW's Mission

The mission of IFCW is to work for children world wide to improve the quality of their lives and to enhance opportunities for the development of their full potential.

This mission is to be achieved through the strengthening of the NGOs worldwide in their direct and indirect service to children and families by:

  • Organising and improving information exchange and co - operation among members.
  • Educating world opinion on the interest and well - being of children.
  • Promoting and organising conferences, seminars and study groups.
  • Co - operating with other recognised bodies having similar objectives.
IFCW's Program Objectives

1.
Capacity building of NGOs through organisation and staff development by:
  • Creating vision and direction;
  • Achieving potential in staff,
  • Fundraising;
  • Strategic decision making;
  • Accountability.

2.  Focus on critical issues in child welfare - setting first priorities for NGOs using the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child as a reference point for addressing:

  • Sexual Abuse and Exploitation;
  • The Impact of HIV/AIDS on Children and Families;
  • Homelessness, Street and Working Children;
  • Strengthening Families for Better Child Care
