WHAT
IS THE REASON FOR
HAVING A CHILD INFORMATION SYSTEM?
To
raise to a professional level
the care and prevention actions related to boys and girls whose rights
have been violated (offender minors, child labor, commercial sexual
exploitation, abandonment, mistreatment, adoptions, early pregnancy,
disability).
WHAT
IS THE AIM OF
A CHILD INFORMATION SYSTEM?

To
promote internment termination (there
are cases where boys and girls are unnecessarily interned).

To create the necessary conditions in order
to
avoid
internment.

To
develop
prevention strategies
in order to encourage communication among judicial institutions (judges
for minors and families) and administrative institutions (CONANI,
Governing Institution).

To optimize
management
and reduce related costs

To
increase
impact and coverage
-
To privilege care
decentralization
by
means of local development
-
To assess
care
impact and program quality.

To establish operational
audit
guidelines.

To produce information for
social
policies at national level.
WHAT
PROGRAMS DOES IT INCLUDE?
HOW
IS IT INSTALLED?
An
Information System with national coverage is installed in order to manage
information on all the boys/girls and their families who benefit from some
type of care from public or private organizations in the Dominican
Republic.
WHO
ARE ITS USERS?
Central
Child-Care Institutions, Ministries, Municipalities, Planning Agencies,
the Presidency of the Republic, Judicial bodies, the media.
HOW
IS IT IMPLEMENTED?
The
Inter-American Children’s Institute has already implemented this System
in the following countries: Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras and Uruguay,
while it is currently being installed in the Republic of Nicaragua.
A
Network with the relevant security and confidentiality levels is created
at national level, and training is provided on:

The use of the SIPI System

The use of the System’s data collection instruments

Information analysis
-
The use of information for decision-making purposes
The
IIN provides
training, technical support, and promotes the horizontal transfer of
expertise among countries.
