(Resolution
approved at the first Plenary Session of Friday June 9th, 2000, during the
75th Ordinary Meeting of the IIN's Directing Council. Ottawa,
Canada, June 7-9, 2000) THE
XVIII PAN AMERICAN CHILD CONGRESS CONSIDERING: -The
need to promote the advocacy of the rights of children and adolescents in
the Americas. -The
right to participation of the children and adolescents established in the
Convention on the Rights of the Child is a basic right conferring upon
them their status as citizens. RESOLVES: -
To request the General Assembly of the OAS that it adopt the necessary
measures to improve and strengthen the regional advocacy systems of the
rights of the children and adolescents; specifically to entrust the
Inter-American Commission on Human Rights with a Specialized Desk to that
purpose. -
To propose the participation of children and adolescents in the
initiatives, projects and actions to be developed by the governmental and
non-governmental agencies on subjects addressing the problems of
children and adolescents. -
To urge the Member States that, in their formulation of
public child and adolescent policies,
they include instances for the participation of children and
adolescents as citizens in the educational, cultural and
sports spheres. |
