VISIT OF PRODER AND PROJUR TO MIMDES - PERU

From January 26 to January 30 2004, the Coordinator of the Program for the Integral Promotion of Children’s Rights Ariel Gustavo Forselledo, and the Coordinator of the Inter-American Children’s Institute’s Legal Program Piero Solari, carried out a negotiation mission aimed at the Ministry for Women and Social Development (MIMDES), which included the following activities:

 -  Committee of Specialists in Adolescent and Juvenile Criminal Justice, convened by MIMDES’ Office for Children and Adolescents (DIGNAA)    

-   Meeting with Vice-minister for Women’s Affairs María Isabel Rojas Ballinas, with Director General for Children’s and Adolescents’ Affairs (DIGNAA) María Emilia Filomeno Chávez, with the Chief of MIMDES’ Advisors’ Cabinet Mario Ríos Espinoza, and with INABIF’s Manager of Family Promotion Olga Combe Jeanneau.

-  Meeting with Executive Secretary of the National Council on Disability (CONADIS), Susana Stiglich Watson

-  Interview with MIMDES’ Minister, Ana María Romero-Lozada Lauezzari

-  Meeting with Professor of Human Rights of Peru’s Catholic University and Executive Director of the non-governmental organization COMETA María Consuelo Barletta

As a result of these meetings, the following points were agreed:

-     The arrangements for a Sub-regional Workshop on Public Policies for the Social and Educational Inclusion
       of Children with Disabilities (Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela)

 -     Participation of professionals and program operators of Peru’s National System for Children in the
        distance-learning courses provided by the IIN through its website: Public Policies for the
        Prevention of Drug Abuse; Attention provided to Children with Disabilities; Complete Attention provided
        to Child Victims of Sexual Exploitation; Gender, Children and Citizenship; Family Rights: Children’s
        horizons in the New Family Geography – for lawyers; Complete Course on Children’s Rights aimed at
        lawyers.

-    Technical Cooperation for the implementation of the National Plan of Action for Children and Adolescents.

-    Sub-regional Workshop on Adolescent and Juvenile Criminal Justice.
