ACTIVITIES IN THE YEAR 2003, BY PROGRAM AND COUNTRY

 

In line with Resolutions AG/ RES. 1952 and AG/ RES. 1974 (XXXIII-O/03) regarding the inclusion of a section with quantifiable results obtained, in the year 2003 the IIN carried out a total of 160 activities, divided into 119 Technical Interventions (assistance, training, workshops, seminars, conferences, and distance and attendance-based courses) and 41 Interventions at the Policy Level (negotiations, signature of agreements, diplomatic procedures and participation in Fora and Events on Children, Adolescents and the Family).

Below are details of the technical and political activities carried out in each country by the Office of the Director General of the IIN and the three Programs, in accordance with the 2000-2004 Strategic Plan.

The activities carried out at IIN Headquarters are considered to have an inter-American scope, given their regional character.

 

ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA

Program for the Integral Promotion of Children's Rights (PRODER)

  • Participation in the Fourth Phase of the Project on Child Policies for Drug Abuse Prevention. An initiative funded by the OAS Inter-American Agency for Cooperation and Development (IACD) through the IIN and the Government of Suriname.

  • Participation in the Fourth Regional Meeting of the Project, held in Kingstown, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

  • National Training Workshop on Participatory Education for the Prevention of Drug Abuse for Adolescents, Parents, Educators, Health Promoters and Community Leaders.

CHILE

  • Speech entitled “Synthesis of Parts One and Two” at the International Seminar “Reforms in the Field of Child and Adolescent Affairs,” organized by the National Child Service of Chile (SENAME).

  • Operative Agreement with the Colombian Institute for Family Welfare (ICBF) for the development of two films, each one minute long, based on the Articles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, to be chosen by mutual agreement. Reference: Cooperation Agreement of May 9, 2001.

COSTA RICA

  • Presentation to the Embassy of the United States of America in Uruguay: proposal for a project for the MERCOSUR Region, Bolivia and Chile on Child Pornography on the Internet, Trafficking of Children for the Purposes of Sexual Exploitation and Adjustment of Domestic Criminal Legislation in line with the Convention on the Rights of the Child (Art. 34).

  • Introduction of the Members from the Americas on the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child to the President of the IDB, Enrique Iglesias, and Proposal for Coordination between the Committee, the IDB and the IIN.
