Promoting
a Culture of Respect for Children's Rights:
The Role of the Media

THE
NINETEENTH PAN AMERICAN CHILD CONGRESS,
CONSIDERING:
-
That
communication plays a major role in politics, economics, and culture
in every society throughout the world;
-
That
information technology, together with the political will to ensure
access to it, provide for new and vital opportunities of political
interaction, social and economic development, and cultural
sustainability;
-
That
communication and information are fundamental social processes and
the basis of any social organization;
-
That
member states recognize the significant role played by the media as
well as the relevance of children’s access to information that
promotes their development.
RESOLVES:
To
urge the IIN to develop, according to its resource availability,
effective strategies to sensitize communication media practitioners on
the importance of their role for the protection and promotion of the
rights of children and their families.
